AMSOIL Promos Continue to Boost Business

Promotions have proven to be successful at attracting customers and spurring sales, leading to more commissions for AMSOIL Dealers. Last year we increased the frequency of promotions and expanded them to reach all different types of customers, including online/catalog customers and P.C.s, retail accounts, commercial accounts and even promotions for independent Dealers. The efforts paid off tremendously. We’re hoping to continue this trend into the new year, and we’re excited to continue offering these promos as a tool for Dealers to boost their businesses. We’ll provide everything you need to use them to your advantage online and in person.

Account Discount and Co-op Reminders

Don’t forget to remind your commercial, retail and installer accounts about the great perks they can receive based on purchases they make throughout the year.

Installer Discount Program

Installer discounts are based on the amount they purchase during the calendar year. Discounts are activated as soon as cumulative purchases reach the minimum threshold, and that discount is guaranteed for the full following year (January – December). Each installer’s 2021 discount will be based on the amount the installer purchased in 2020.

U.S. Annual Purchases          Discount

$3,500 - $24,999.99                   5%

$25,000+                                    10%

Canada Annual Purchases    Discount

$4,500 - $29,999.99                    5%

$30,000+                                      10%

Retail Co-op Program

Retail accounts (non-installers) earn co-op credit that can be applied to the costs of qualified advertising, literature, merchandising and promotional items. Co-op credit is earned with every product purchase throughout the year. All credit is awarded at the beginning of January the following year and expires on Dec. 31. The more an account buys in a year, the greater the co-op percentage earned. Co-op credit is earned according to the following scale:

Total Annual Purchases        Percentage Earned in Co-op Credit

$0 - $7,499                                   3%

$7,500 - $24,999                         4%

$25,000 or more                          5%

Commercial Discount Program

Commercial accounts also earn discounts based on their annual purchases, and those discounts stay with them all year. At the beginning of each calendar year, an account’s discount is locked in based on its purchases over the previous 12 months. Accounts that purchase enough to qualify for a higher discount level are granted that discount immediately, but accounts that fall out of qualification continue receiving their current discount rate for the remainder of the year.

U.S. Annual Purchases          Discount

$5,000 - $9,999.99                     5%

$10,000+                                     10%

Canada Annual Purchases    Discount

$6,000 - $11,999.99                   5%

$12,000+                                     10%

Beware of Ordering Scams

We have been made aware of several attempts by scam artists to target AMSOIL Dealers while posing as legitimate companies. It is important to be wary of scam attempts during the ordering process. If an opportunity seems too good to be true, it may be a scam. Be wary of the following warning signs:

• Unusually large orders or unusual product selection

• Email domain name doesn’t match the legitimate company’s website address

• Names on the account, credit card or shipping address don’t match

• Multiple orders with different shipping addresses

• Multiple payment methods used or offered

• “New” businesses with no online presence

• Price isn’t an issue and registering as a customer is too inconvenient

• Caller ID is different than phone number used on account

• Speed is important

• Unusual shipping locations, including trucking company depots, storage facilities, vacant buildings, apartments and package-forwarding services

• Retail businesses (resellers) that aren’t concerned about paying sales taxes

While there can be legitimate reasons for some of these unusual situations, Dealers are well-advised to perform additional research. A couple minutes of online research by name, business name, address and telephone number can usually confirm whether an opportunity is legitimate. Asking customers a few questions about the type of business, how products will be used, who is the end customer and billing details associated with credit cards can also be helpful. Consumers are used to providing this type of information, and these questions can help identify fraudulent activities. If you have doubts, do more research, decline the opportunity and advise AMSOIL/others to look out for similar activities.

Do not rely on credit card authorization processes to determine if payment is valid. Transactions with stolen credit cards will be authorized until the theft or fraudulent activity is identified, but credit/debit card companies will charge back merchants for all fraudulent charges. In some cases this can take 90 or more days after the sale. At this point, there is little chance of retrieving products or identifying the customer.

Protect yourself and your Dealership by doing your homework and knowing who you’re selling to. Remember, it is your responsibility to avoid selling products to another Dealer’s protected customers and to ensure your customers aren’t attempting to pass stolen credit cards or resell products online.

Tax Information for U.S. and Canadian Dealers

Commissions are considered income and are reported on form 1099-NEC (U.S.) and form T4A (Canada). The 1099 and T4A forms only reflect commissions paid during the calendar year; they do not include any deductions or credits from Dealer checks.

Dealers only receive a form if their commission checks totaled more than $600 in 2020 for U.S. Dealers and more than $500 for Canadian Dealers. Note that T4A forms are issued in Canadian funds. Dealers’ 1099 and T4A income is determined by the dates of the commission checks issued between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2020.

AMSOIL will mail all 1099 forms by Jan. 31, 2021, and T4A forms by no later than Feb. 28, 2021. Please allow at least two weeks delivery time before calling for a replacement form. Forms may also be obtained in the Dealer Zone (My Business>Year End Tax Documents). AMSOIL is not qualified to provide, and does not offer, any tax advice. Please consult a tax advisor. Dealers suspecting an error on their 1099 or T4A forms are advised to gather their check stubs and call the accounting department at 715-399-6348.
