Picking Up Speed

Preferred Customer Program gains momentum following enhancements.

Last fall, the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program was overhauled to improve customer acquisition, retention, share of wallet and loyalty. Now, just over six months after launching the new program, the results are in: The AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program is rapidly meeting those goals and showing no signs of slowing. With its sharper focus on benefits that customers value most, the program is providing a strong tool to help Dealers grow and retain customers.

See the July AMSOIL Magazine for more information.

A Step-by-Step Guide to Dealer-Number Transferring Links

Sharing a link to AMSOIL.com/AMSOIL.ca or The Inside Track? Make sure it has your Dealer number attached with a Dealer-number transferring link.

Dealer-number transferring links are URLs to corporate AMSOIL webpages with your Dealer number attached. These links allow you to direct prospective customers and Dealers to the information they need while also keeping them connected to you as a Dealer and ensuring you receive commissions on any purchases they make during their visit.

See the July AMSOIL Magazine for more information and instructions for making your own Dealer-number transferring links.

Truck, Chassis and Equipment Grease & Off-Road Grease Large Package Sizes Available for Purchase

AMSOIL Synthetic Polymeric Truck, Chassis and Equipment Grease (GPTR1, GPTR2) and AMSOIL Synthetic Polymeric Off-Road Grease (GPOR1, GPOR2) large-package sizes (35-lb. lugs, 120-lb. kegs and 400-lb. drums) are now available for purchase, although some still carry purchase restrictions. Supplies of grease cartridges continue to be delayed due to supply-chain issues. We are working to resolve this issue and plan to have a solution in place shortly. Stay tuned to the Dealer Zone for updates.

Diesel Oil Status

If you’ve browsed the automotive section of your local retailers lately, you’ve likely noticed a lot of bare shelves – particularly in the diesel oil section. You may have also noticed an increase in inquiries from new customers and accounts looking for diesel oil because they can’t find it elsewhere. Recent podcasts and articles published online have made wild claims about the state of the diesel oil market, even predicting that diesel oil will be unavailable for a full year. All of these factors have worked together to create a state of uncertainty, and for some people, even panic.

Here’s the straight scoop: There are issues affecting the diesel oil market and the supply chain of raw materials supporting the production of diesel oil remains unstable. This is not new. We have been battling these issues for more than a year and have successfully maintained a steady supply of diesel oil and supported sales growth in the diesel market. Thanks to the diligence and creativity of our corporate team, we will be able to support our current sales trajectory for the foreseeable future. The greatest threat to our ability to maintain a steady supply of diesel products is panic buying. If Dealers, customers and accounts start buying high volumes of diesel oil out of fear of a pending shortage, they will create a shortage. If everyone maintains their typical buying habits, we should have minimal issues maintaining our supply of AMSOIL diesel oils.

There is a great deal of misinformation out there. Some of the purported “news” articles and podcasts are filled with falsehoods and half-truths. The supply-chain issues plaguing the production of diesel oils are not new. In fact, AMSOIL is in a stronger position today than we were a year ago. While those issues are real and will continue for some time, there is no truth to reports of additive manufacturers shutting down or predictions of diesel oil being unavailable for a year or more. Again, the only way those predictions come true is if everyone panics and buys a year’s supply of diesel oil (see the toilet-paper shortage in 2020). Therefore, we are asking you to maintain the status quo. Continue buying and selling diesel oils as you normally would. Take advantage of new business as it comes your way, but do not purchase or support the purchase of abnormally large quantities or we will be forced to limit quantities available for purchase.

Another Win for Consumer Freedom

Some original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) still push the false narrative that consumers must use the OEM brand of parts and lubricants in their vehicles and equipment to maintain their warranties. We and our Dealers continue to fight this narrative, and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is on our side.

In June, the FTC took action against motorcycle manufacturing company Harley-Davidson* for using terms in its 2021 limited warranty that suggested the warranty would be void if consumers used independent parties for parts or repairs instead of Harley-Davidson and its authorized dealers:

“Genuine Harley-Davidson parts are engineered and tested specifically for use on your motorcycle. Insist that your authorized Harley-Davidson dealer uses only genuine Harley-Davidson replacement parts and accessories to keep your Harley-Davidson motorcycle and its limited warranty intact.”

Harley-Davidson has been ordered by the FTC to fix its limited warranty to recognize the right to repair and to notify consumers that their warranties will remain in effect even if they use a different brand of parts.

In America, the federal Magnuson Moss Warranty Act protects consumers’ freedom to choose the brand of parts and lubricants they think is best.

  • It is illegal to tie warranty coverage to whichever brand of parts or lubricants you use. Manufacturers that do so must provide the parts or lubricants free of charge.
  • You have the freedom to choose how you protect your vehicles and equipment, including use of products formulated for extended drain intervals.
  • Manufacturers can’t deny warranty coverage without showing the aftermarket part or lubricant caused a failure.

If you've had a motorcycle, UTV, snowmobile or other dealership pressure you into buying the manufacturer's brand of parts or lubricants to avoid losing your factory warranty, contact the FTC at www.ftc.gov/complaint. Remember, Dealers cannot file complaints on behalf of their customers; the customers need to file them on their own.

Commercial Training: Focus on Reducing Cost of Ownership

When you find prospects who understand how AMSOIL products can lower their costs, their eyes light up. AMSOIL cost per gallon becomes less significant because they see the larger savings AMSOIL products can bring to their businesses. Finding high-potential prospects and getting to this point requires a plan and asking good questions. Our July commercial training session will walk through that process.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 20 at 11 a.m. Central. Use this link to join the meeting at the scheduled time:

The Next 50 Compensation Plan: Coming Oct. 1, 2022

The wait is almost over. The Next 50 (TN50) compensation plan, the biggest and most exciting improvement to the Dealer opportunity in decades, will take effect Oct. 1, 2022.

Following more than a year of research that has involved industry experts and hundreds of hours of interviews with current and former Dealers, we developed the TN50 plan to meet the following goals:

• Simpler to understand and explain

• Pay new Dealers more

• Pay more closer to the sale

By introducing a simpler compensation plan that meets these goals, we hope that you’ll register and retain more active, successful Dealers. That adds up to more Dealers selling more products, growing the pie for everyone over the long term.

See the June AMSOIL Magazine for more information.

How Dealers Will Make Money Under Two Compensation Plans

The Next 50 plan is set to take effect Oct. 1, 2022, and Dealers have asked about how they’ll generate earnings if they have customers and accounts under two different plans. Specifically, if you’re earning at the middle or upper tiers of the commission schedule under the legacy plan, do you start at the bottom of the Profit Tier Schedule on sales to new customers under The Next 50 plan? The good news is, no, you don’t start at the bottom.

See the June AMSOIL Magazine for more information and examples.

Change to the $500 Minimum Monthly Personal Sales Requirement in the TN50 Compensation Plan

In response to Dealer feedback and the latest guidance on complying with FTC regulations, we are making an adjustment to The Next 50 compensation plan before it launches. There will be no sales requirement to earn Tier 1 profits on any sale; however, Dealers will be required to have $500 in personal sales to qualify for Tier 2, 3 or 4 profits. The relevant materials in the Dealer Zone have been updated to reflect this change.

Prep for Your Summer Adventure-Bike Trip

In recent years, the motorcycle market has begun shifting away from big, powerful V-twin cruisers, like a typical Harley-Davidson,* and toward lighter, versatile adventure bikes. The pandemic accelerated the shift as sales of adventure bikes jumped 46.5% from 2019-2020 as people in search of entertainment options during the lockdowns snapped up new and pre-owned adventure bikes. Maybe you or one of your customers are one of them.

Before you embark on your summer adventure-bike trip, follow the steps in the June AMSOIL Magazine to ensure you spend your time making memories and not repairs.

Commercial Training: Setting Yourself Apart with an Oil Analysis Program

The meeting will be led by Senior Vice President, Dealer Sales and Marketing Dan Peterson. Peterson has extensive technical expertise from leading the AMSOIL Product Development team prior to his current role.

Expert Tips for a Successful Fishing Season

Each season, tens of millions of Americans and Canadians hit the water in search of fish, making it one of the most popular activities in both countries. Few anglers have unlimited time to fish, so to help maximize your opportunities this season, we solicited a few tips from professional anglers John Gillespie and Pete Maina.

See the May AMSOIL Magazine to read their advice for making this a successful fishing season.

We Answer Your Questions About The Next 50 Compensation Plan

The Next 50 (TN50) compensation plan is scheduled to take effect later this year, and we’re working hard to finalize the details. Review the February, March and April editions of AMSOIL Magazine for details and examples of how the plan will work. Find them in the Dealer Zone (Digital Library>Publications>AMSOIL Magazine). While you’re in the Dealer Zone (my.AMSOIL.com), complete “The Next 50 Compensation Plan” program for additional info.

As we prepare for this change, we’ve asked you to submit questions to [email protected]. See the May AMSOIL Magazine for answers to your most frequently asked questions about the TN50 plan. Please continue to submit your questions as they arise.

Grease Updates

We are getting closer to restoring our grease inventory to appropriate levels, but a few supply and shipping bottlenecks are delaying our efforts.

Cartridge Tubes

Cartridge-tube shortages have created supply-chain issues for AMSOIL and our competitors across the grease industry. We are doing all we can to keep AMSOIL synthetic grease cartridges available without limiting purchase quantities for Dealers, customers and accounts. For those currently unavailable, we are working hard to ensure supply is delivered as quickly as possible. We encourage you to continue checking AMSOIL.com/AMSOIL.ca for availability. You may also click the “Notify Me” button on a product page to receive an email notification when the affected product is available for purchase.

Industrial Packaging

We have experienced significant supply issues with our larger grease packaging. Pails, kegs and drums of AMSOIL synthetic greases will transition from blue to black packaging to help secure uninterrupted supply going forward. Blue packaging will remain in the field until supplies are exhausted.

New Thickener

AMSOIL Synthetic Polymeric Truck, Chassis and Equipment Grease (GPTR1, GPTR2) will transition from using a lithium complex thickener to a calcium sulfonate thickener, providing improved performance in the areas of corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, shear stability and high-temperature operation. Both thickeners are compatible with each other, so you and your customers can transition to the new formulation without concern once it becomes available.

Quicker Payment for Catalog Orders

Effective May 1, we will start paying commissions on catalog orders in the same business month the orders were placed, ensuring Dealers are paid for their sales as quickly as possible and matching the way we pay commissions for Dealer and Preferred Customer orders.

Customer Certification Required to Appear on Dealer Locator

The "Locator Certified" designation has been retired, creating the need to set a new standard for Dealers to appear on the AMSOIL Dealer Locator. Effective June 1, Dealers must be Customer Certified to appear on the Locator, helping ensure customers are connected with active, knowledgeable Dealers and receive the best possible service.

Change to Alternative Qualification for Customer Certification

Today, those who have been a Dealer for less than 1 year can become Customer Certified by completing Customer Basic Training and registering two new qualified customers annually. Effective May 19, new Dealers can become Customer Certified with only two new qualified customers annually in their first 2 years as a Dealer, providing valuable additional time for new Dealers to build their Dealerships.

Commercial Training: Focused on Success

The May commercial training session will focus on the success AMSOIL and Dealers have achieved together in commercial markets. We will review the markets in which we have success, the tools we have to help us win in the commercial market and the importance of in-person contact and regular communication with your customers. We always welcome and value your stories from the field. Sharing ideas can lead to success for everyone.

The half-hour meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 18 at 11 a.m. Central.  Use this link to join the meeting at the scheduled time:

195-hp Turbocharged UTV No Match for AMSOIL Products

To demonstrate the superior protection delivered by AMSOIL UTV products and provide additional sales support to help you reach owners of sport UTVs, we recently conducted an extreme dyno test using a 2021 Can-Am* Maverick* X3 DS Turbo RR. Its turbocharged engine makes more power than some cars on the road today and propels it to nearly 100 mph (160 km/h).

We turned it loose in the real world prior to lab testing to establish a baseline for engine temperature, oil temperature, rpm and other measurements. We used this information to design a test plan that pushed the machine beyond real-world conditions to determine if AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke® Powersports Synthetic Oil and SEVERE GEAR® 75W-140 Synthetic Gear Lube are capable of delivering reserve protection no matter how hard enthusiasts push their UTVs.

See the April AMSOIL Magazine for more information and check out this short video that shows the impressive test results; share it on social media, via text or on your website to start a conversation with prospects and pique their curiosity about AMSOIL products. Link to the AMSOIL online store with a Dealer-number transferring link so you get credit for any sales or customer registrations.

More Examples of How The Next 50 Compensation Plan Works

We hope you’re getting up to speed on The Next 50 compensation plan, which will take effect later this year. We will provide ample advanced notice of the precise implementation date, but we’re providing details now to help you prepare for this change and understand how the new compensation plan will work.

Following more than a year of research that has involved industry experts and hours of interviews with current and former Dealers, we developed The Next 50 plan to meet the following goals:

• Simpler to understand and explain

• Pay new Dealers more

• Pay more closer to the sale

If you’re actively selling products and personally sponsoring other Dealers, it is highly likely you will make more money under The Next 50 compensation plan.

See the April AMSOIL Magazine for more information and examples.* See the The Next 50 Compensation Plan program on the Dealer Zone homepage to catch up on the latest videos covering the reasons for the change and how the TN50 plan works.

*Building a successful AMSOIL Dealership takes skill, hard work and time. The examples and financial information in this document should not be relied upon or construed by you as a representation by AMSOIL that you or any Dealer can expect to attain any specific level or range of sales, costs, income or profit. AMSOIL encourages you to perform your own analysis with your own advisors. There is no assurance or guarantee as to the profitability or success of Dealers and AMSOIL makes no representation of any kind in that regard. From January 2021 – January 2022, Dealers purchased and sold an average of $440.54 per month. Average Dealer earnings per month during the same period were $97.89.

Supply-Chain Issues and Backorders

Supply-chain issues are creating significant challenges for manufacturers in all industries, including AMSOIL. All manufacturing components, including steel, chemicals and even drivers to deliver raw materials and finished goods, are in short supply. While we are working hard to secure enough base oils, additives and packaging to keep all our products in stock, we must sometimes place certain products on temporary backorder.

If a product you or a customer wants to purchase is temporarily out of stock, we encourage you to continue checking AMSOIL.com (AMSOIL.ca in Canada) for availability. You may also click the “Notify Me” button on the product page to receive an email notification when the affected product is available for purchase. The majority of AMSOIL products are available as normal and we expect that to continue; despite our best efforts, however, supplies of raw materials for grease, aerosols and filters continue to pose more significant challenges and likely will for a few more months.

Thank you for understanding; we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
