Filter Applications and Cross-Reference CD and Download Now Available

The new Filter Applications and Cross-Reference Guide CD (G3001) and download are now available, allowing users to upload the file to their computers and receive automatic updates when new filter and application information becomes available. The CD is available for a minimum charge, and the download is available free-of-charge to Dealers and customers at www.amsoil.com/filterapplicationsguide.aspx.

OE Synthetic Diesel Oil Now API-Certified

For customers and accounts that prefer an API-certified diesel oil, AMSOIL OE 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil (OED) is now API CJ-4 certified and bears the API starburst on its packaging.

AMSOIL Holds the Line on Price Increase

Rising raw material costs have prompted a number of lubricant companies; including Shell, ConocoPhillips, Chevron, Petro-Canada and Chemlube; to announce 3-6 percent lubricant price increases effective in May.

AMSOIL is diligently working on keeping its raw material costs in-line and has no imminent plans for a price increase. Should a future price increase become necessary, Dealers will be provided with notice in the Dealer Zone, Hotwire and AMSOIL Magazine.

Motorists Value Vehicle Longevity

According to Kelton Research, the average American motorist believes a vehicle should accumulate over 200,000 miles before it is retired and that a vehicle isn’t “old” until it reaches around 147,000 miles. In addition, 86 percent of vehicle owners place greater importance on engine upkeep than vehicle aesthetics, while 85 percent are more concerned about their vehicles’ longevity than the longevity of their homes.

Catalog Request Form Redesigned

Effective April 2, AMSOIL has redesigned the online catalog request form to make it simpler for potential customers to request a catalog. The new version of the catalog request form gives users the option to either download a PDF version of the catalog or request to have a copy sent to them by mail.

Users who elect to download a PDF version of the catalog will not be required to provide their address information (Figure 1.1). If a user arrives at amsoil.com from a Z.O.-transferring link, the Dealer’s Z.O. number is automatically embedded in the downloaded catalog, ensuring the Dealer receives credit for any sales. Prospects who arrive without a Z.O.-transferring link cannot be entered into the T-1 Leads Program because their address is unknown, but when these prospects do choose to place an order, they will be assigned at that time.

(Figure 2.1) For users who request a catalog by mail, the form has been simplified in an attempt to reduce the number of users who abandon the form before completing it. The former online catalog request form will remain online but will redirect to a catalog request landing page. This is done to eliminate dead links coming from Dealer websites.

After submitting a request for a mailed catalog, users will be presented with a final screen asking what additional information they might be interested in and how they heard about AMSOIL (Figure 3.1).

These fields are optional. After selecting skip or submit on the final screen users will be redirected to a page containing links pertaining to their areas of interest (if supplied). They will also receive an email containing a link back to the page containing links to all areas of interest.

As normal, prospects who request catalogs by mail will be encouraged to provide a referral number or the name of a Dealer they have been working with. The new form also identifies and captures Z.O.-transferring links from Dealers’ websites, banner ads, Facebook pages and other advertisements. Other prospects who have no link to a Dealer will be assigned to T-1 Certified Dealers in the usual manner.

AMSOIL Encourages Dealer Participation in Expanded Online Ad Campaign

AMSOIL has experimented with multiple online ad campaigns in recent months in an effort to increase brand awareness, generate leads and, ultimately, increase motor oil sales. Through these experiments AMSOIL has identified the two campaigns that are generating the greatest response. In order to broaden the reach of these campaigns even further and provide additional benefits to Dealers who participate, AMSOIL is sharing these ads with the Dealer network.

The first and most successful set of ads promotes MyAMSOILGarage. Many new users registered at amsoil.com in the first month of advertising this useful service. Dealers are encouraged to use these ads to promote MyAMSOILGarage through their own online marketing efforts.

The second set of ads promotes the AMSOIL Supercross Finals Sweepstakes. Web users are encouraged to enter their contact information for a chance to win a trip for two to Las Vegas for the 2012 Supercross Finals. Dealers are not allowed to enter the contest, but are encouraged to use the advertisements to help generate new leads and promote the contest to their current customers. Contest entries submitted to AMSOIL via an ad placed by a Dealer will have that Dealer’s Z.O. attached to ensure the Dealer receives the lead information. The Supercross contest ends April 15.

Outdated Promotional Materials

In keeping with AMSOIL policy, Dealers are to use only current AMSOIL materials in their promotions. AMSOIL has received complaints that many Dealers are still using outdated or inaccurate information on their websites. AMSOIL asks Dealers to remove outdated information and cease using it to promote AMSOIL products.

Examples include the A Study of Motorcycle Oils white paper (G2156), A Study of Automotive Gear Lubes white paper (G2457), Comparative Motor Oil Testing brochure (G1971), A Study of Compressor Oils white paper (G1592), Gear Oil Testing brochure (G1903), Sequence IIIF brochure (G1916), 8.2% Fuel Mileage Increase brochure (G1351), 409,000-Mile Oil Drain brochure (G1343) and PAO badge. These items and all other discontinued literature, videos, charts and other promotional materials must be removed from Dealers’ websites, YouTube channels, Facebook pages, etc. when they are discontinued. According to AMSOIL policy, “only current, authorized logos, slogans, graphs, statistical comparisons, non-confidential items and product information may be used in the promotion of an AMSOIL business.”

AMSOIL is currently researching methods of delivering promotional content to Dealers that the company can automatically update and discontinue on their behalf. The company is also researching viable methods of publicly archiving outdated test results, field trials and other valuable information online for historical purposes.

Dealers are asked to review their websites for outdated promotional materials and remove or replace them with current materials. AMSOIL will soon begin searching for outdated documents on websites and actively require their removal.

Continued Growth Projected for Synthetics

The Freedonia Group projects higher equipment performance requirements and increasingly stringent environmental standards will cause U.S. demand for synthetic lubricants to grow by more than 8 percent annually to $7.4 billion in 2015. Buoyed by an increased number of vehicles on the road and the latest motor oil specifications, synthetic motor oil demand is expected to grow the quickest, increasing 12.4 percent per year to $3.2 billion in 2015. Demand for synthetic transmission oil and hydraulic fluids is expected to increase 11.5 percent annually to $955 million by 2015.

“Aftermarket sales of synthetic engine oils will be promoted by ongoing consumer education about the benefits of synthetic products and manufacturers’ recommendations for synthetic oils as part of regular maintenance,” said Freedonia analyst Bridget McMurtrie.
