A New Look for the Hotwire

Starting this month, the Hotwire will be delivered in a new format that offers some great features. The new format allows AMSOIL to more effectively deliver news and updates to Dealers, while also providing a great place to store information for Dealers to reference later.

As seen this month, the email portion of the Hotwire features a list of all the new articles available on the Hotwire page online. The articles are hyperlinked directly to the most current edition of the Hotwire. The right side of the screen shows the Hotwire Story Archive, which can be collapsed or expanded by clicking on the triangles next to the years and months. AMSOIL will archive all Hotwire articles here.

A new feature this format enables is an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed option, allowing Dealers to be informed when a new article is posted on the Hotwire page. RSS feeds allow users to keep track of when information is updated on a webpage; they function similar to a “favorites” list that many people use to keep track of their favorite websites within their web browsers. To subscribe to the RSS feed, click on the “Subscribe to the Hotwire – Posts” section on the right side of the screen. Options for several web services that support RSS feeds will appear, allowing users to select one of their choosing, or they may click the “Atom” feed button at the bottom of the list. 

This will subscribe the user’s web browser to the feed. To see the feed in Internet Explorer, click the “Favorites” button at the top left of the browser, then click the “Feeds” tab. Hover over the “Hotwire” link to see when it was last updated, click the link to view the most recently-published Hotwire articles and click on an article to visit the Hotwire webpage.

Hotwire subscribers will still receive an email every month when the new issues arrives, but this new format also enables subscribers to track changes between publications and provides a way to check for updates if the monthly Hotwire email is blocked or does not arrive on time.

Maximum Protection Against Shear and Fuel Dilution

Resisting shear and maintaining protective viscosity in the harsh operating conditions of diesel engines is challenge enough for many diesel oils, but maintaining viscosity in the face of fuel dilution is another challenge altogether. Although recent fuel dilution issues forced AMSOIL to adjust its Premium API CJ-4 Synthetic Diesel Oil drain interval recommendations in 2007-2010 Dodge 6.7L, Ford 6.4L and GM 6.6L light-duty turbo-diesel pickups and 2007-2009 on-highway Caterpillar C13 and C15 engines to the manufacturer-recommended drain intervals, AMSOIL Premium API CJ-4 Synthetic Diesel Oils remain the premium choice for diesel applications.  AMSOIL Premium Diesel Oils resist viscosity loss from both shearing forces and fuel dilution to maintain their protective film strengths, providing superior protection to all diesel engines.

AMSOIL sent five competitive synthetic CJ-4 5W-40 diesel oils to an independent laboratory for shear stability testing.  Knowing the tough environment that diesels present to lubricating oils, AMSOIL doubled the standard Kurt Orbahn 90-cycle test and had the oils tested for 180 cycles.  Samples were then contaminated with 2 and 4 percent ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) fuel.  Even after being shear tested for twice the industry standard and contaminated with 4 percent fuel dilution, AMSOIL maintained viscosity and was the only oil to stay within an SAE 40 viscosity rating.  As other oils lost viscosity due to shearing forces and fuel dilution, their ability to protect against wear was jeopardized.

AMSOIL Official Oil of Laconia Bike Week

First the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, then Daytona Bike Week and now Laconia Bike Week. AMSOIL exposure in the motorcycle market continues to rise with AMSOIL signing on as the Exclusive Official Oil of Laconia Bike Week. The Laconia, N.H. rally draws 400,000 bikers annually, making it the third-largest rally in the country behind Sturgis and Daytona. As the oldest motorcycle rally in the country, Laconia Bike Week has a special place in history and is an annual event for many motorcycle enthusiasts.

AMSOIL Holds the Line on Price Increase

Rising base oil, additive and packaging costs have prompted a number of lubricant companies; including ExxonMobil, Shell, Chevron, BP/Castrol, ConocoPhillips, Citgo and Petro-Canada; to announce 6-10 percent lubricant price increases.

AMSOIL is diligently working on keeping its raw material costs in-line and has no imminent plans for a price increase. Should a future price increase become necessary, Dealers will be provided with advance notice in the Dealer Zone, Hotwire and Action News.

Labels for AGGRAND 2.5-gallon, 55-gallon and 275-gallon containers have been redesigned to more closely resemble quart labels, bringing continuity to the line of AGGRAND products.

AMSOIL University Just Around the Corner

AMSOIL University (AU) is the most important Dealer training event of the year, and the 2010 event is rapidly approaching. Join fellow Dealers and AMSOIL corporate staff May 16-20 at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center (DECC) in Duluth, Minn. New AMSOIL Save 10 Program

The new AMSOIL Save 10 Program allows Dealers and Preferred Customers who do not renew their memberships to continue buying AMSOIL products at discounted pricing.  Effective February 1, 2010, all AMSOIL Dealers and Preferred Customers whose memberships expired in January, or expire going forward, will be automatically enrolled in the Save 10 Program, allowing them to purchase AMSOIL products at 10 percent less than suggested retail pricing.

AGGRAND and ALTRUM Organizational Changes

Exciting changes are coming to AGGRAND and ALTRUM.  With the continued growth of the AGGRAND and ALTRUM product lines, these areas of business now require additional resources and personnel to help Dealers support their growing businesses.

Over the last three years, AGGRAND has expanded into new markets where the products have attracted new customers at an increasing rate.  With a large number of new customers learning about natural fertilizers for the first time, technical support is necessary to assist in the transition.  AGGRAND Product Service is designed to assist customers in the use of AGGRAND products and keep them coming back year after year.  

Fertilizer Specialist Walt Sandbeck is the new contact for AGGRAND technical questions related to application rates, soil analysis and other related technical inquiries.  Sandbeck has been a part of the AGGRAND operation for over 11 years and is very well-versed in the AGGRAND product line.  For AGGRAND Product Service questions, call 715-399-6419 or e-mail [email protected].

AGGRAND sales-related questions, such as approaching accounts, sales questions, handling objections, etc., will now be handled by the regional sales managers, providing a continuity of support for all business entities related to account information and sales support.

ALTRUM is no stranger to this exciting and significant growth.  For the past 11 years, Greg Sawyer has been the ALTRUM division manager, which included the AGGRAND product line.  Due to the growth of the business, supporting both the ALTRUM and AGGRAND product lines is no longer possible for one person.  For this reason, Sawyer will focus his efforts exclusively on the growing ALTRUM business, where he will handle all ALTRUM sales and product-related questions.  ALTRUM support is available at 715-399-6567 or [email protected].


Due to unavoidable increases in raw material costs, AGGRAND is increasing pricing on select products effective February 1, 2010.  Natural Kelp and Sulfate of Potash and, to a lesser degree, Natural Fertilizer are affected.  Pricing for Natural Liquid Lime and Natural Liquid Bonemeal, which has been in place since 2007, remains unaffected.  In consideration of the increased commissions implemented in the Commercial Program in early 2009, AGGRAND commercial pricing has been equalized with pricing for other AGGRAND marketing programs, simplifying business for AGGRAND Dealers.  In addition, AGGRAND pricing will now be available in AGGRAND-only price lists separate from the traditional ALTRUM price lists.  Watch the Dealer Zone for availability.  In the meantime, rest assured that AGGRAND will continue improving internal processes to ensure the company delivers the highest quality products at the best possible prices.
