AMSOIL Keeps Sturgis Cool

Hundreds of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts made the trek to Sturgis, S.D. in August for the 2014 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The historic bike rally hosts a jam-packed week of entertainment with bike shows, racing, burnout events, concerts and more. AMSOIL returned as the Official Oil for the 74th annual rally, and this year became the exclusive Official Oil of the Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground, which hosted rounds 11 and 12 of the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL.

AMSOIL retained its larger booth footprint on Main Street this year, and added two more oil-change locations to serve the growing number of bikers who wanted AMSOIL products installed in their motorcycles.

See the September AMSOIL Magazine for more information.

AMSOIL Metal Display Shelf (G3215) Back in Stock

EA15K88 Sales Temporarily Suspended

A manufacturing issue has been discovered in current inventory of Ea15K88 Oil Filters. AMSOIL has temporarily discontinued sales of the filter until a solution is reached with the filtration partner that manufactured the filter. Dealers who have Ea15K88 Filters in stock should also suspend sales until further notice. Please do not return filters to AMSOIL at this time; instructions for returns will be provided once it has been determined whether the issue has affected filters currently in the field. Customers with an Ea15K88 filter currently installed can continue using the filter at the normally prescribed interval. Watch the Dealer Zone for updates as the situation develops.

Ontario Oil-Filter Recycling Fees

Due to the build-up of excess funds, Ontario and AMSOIL temporarily stopped charging oil-filter recycling fees in October 2013. With the surplus soon depleted, the following oil-filter recycling fees will apply effective September 1:

$0.50 per filter less than 8” in length

$1.00 per filter 8” in length or greater

Synthetic Lubricant Demand Continues Growing

According to Kline & Co., synthetic lubricant global market share is expected to climb from 13 percent in 2013 to 15 percent in 2017 and 18 percent in 2023. Singling out the consumer automotive lubricants market, synthetics are expected to account for 33 percent of global demand in 2023, up from 26 percent in 2013.

Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are fueling the increased demand for synthetics. “These volume OEMs really move the needle in terms of synthetic penetration, and we expect that to continue as more and more of these types of OEMs convert either fully to synthetic or partially depending on their engine platforms,” said George Morvey, industry manager for Kline’s energy practice. “Certainly we are seeing longer oil drain intervals, and more vehicles equipped with oil life monitoring systems. In some cases, if you follow the system, the car might need an oil change once a year. With some German imports, that could be 14, 15, 16 months before getting an oil change. Those OEM factors are pushing the extended oil drain intervals and in turn creating demand for synthetics."

As the market continues to shift from do-it-yourself (DIY) to do-it-for-me (DIFM), mechanics and technicians play a key role in influencing customers’ lubricant decisions. “Vehicle owners look to those folks who are the expert to make the brand and product selection, and [a] lot of them are doing that over an OEM-approved brand list,” said Morvey. “A lot of the promotional activity we see in certain country markets is really directed to that decision-maker as opposed to the vehicle owner.”

U.S. Vehicle Population Grows

According to a recent IHS Automotive study, the average vehicle age in the United States is 11.4 years, while vehicle scrap rates are down and new vehicle registrations are up. In fact, there are 3.7 million (1.5 percent) more vehicles on the road since July 2013, representing the largest increase since 2005, and new vehicle registrations surpassed the vehicle scrappage rate by 24 percent over the 12-month study.

“IHS Automotive forecasts that the volume of vehicles zero to five years old will increase by 32 percent over the next five years while vehicles in the 6- to 11-year-old category will decline by 21 percent,” said Mark Seng, IHS Automotive director of aftermarket solutions. “Because of improved quality and consumers holding their cars and light trucks longer, vehicles 12-plus years old continue to grow and will increase by 15 percent by 2019.”

AMSOIL Metal Display Shelf (G3215) Inventory Expected September 1

The arrival of the new AMSOIL Metal Display Shelf (G3215) inventory has been delayed. The Display Shelf is expected to be available again by September 1. Dealers who qualify for the Merchandising Display Co-op Program in the meantime can either purchase discounted AMSOIL Point-of-Purchase Bottle Displays (G3264, G3265, G3266 [availability varies by distribution center]) or wait until the AMSOIL Metal Display Shelf is back in stock. Dealers will still be eligible to receive the display co-op on qualifying retail-account orders during the out-of-stock period. AMSOIL will notify Dealers in the Dealer Zone when the new shipment of shelves is available for purchase.

Discontinued OAI Sample Kits

Oil Analyzers Inc. (OAI) sample kits sold prior to 2008 and addressed to Cleveland, Ohio are no longer being delivered to the laboratory. The lab moved to a different location in Cleveland after being purchased by a new owner, and the delivery contracts with UPS and the U.S. Postal Service have expired.

Although the vast majority of sample kits sold prior to 2008 have already been used, some unused kits may still be in circulation. If you have any kits with the Cleveland shipping address, they will not be delivered to the lab and should be discarded. These kits will not be replaced.

If you sent a sample to the lab at the Cleveland address and have not received results, you may contact Customer Service at 800-726-5400 to determine if the sample was received.

Maximize Sales by Updating Your Retail & Auto Service Center Accounts’ Online Locator Information

AMSOIL introduced the updated Online Locator in May to help Dealers increase retail sales, add new customers and improve customer service. In addition to helping users find an independent AMSOIL Dealer near them, the Online Locator helps them find retail businesses and auto service centers in their area that offer AMSOIL products and services. Each account has its own web page within the Online Locator that displays hours of operation, driving directions and the AMSOIL products the business sells. This information helps customers quickly find what they’re looking for, encouraging them to buy from your retail accounts and boosting your sales. It’s also an excellent tool Dealers can show prospective retail accounts as an added benefit to selling AMSOIL products.

As 50 percent of consumers research product and location information online before purchasing products or services, it is imperative this information is updated for each AMSOIL retail account. To ensure your accounts appear on the Locator, please take a few minutes to ensure your accounts’ information is up-to-date and complete. Customers and prospects who encounter incomplete or missing information are more likely to shop elsewhere, meaning lost sales for you and your retail account. Completing your accounts’ web pages is simple and takes only a few minutes. Follow the instructions below to get started.

1. Navigate to My Business > Retail Account Information Administration.

2. Read the PDF instructions on how to complete the profile builder page.

3. Verify the information on file for each of your accounts is accurate. Accounts with multiple locations require a separate page for each location.
