AMSOIL Signature Series Showcased in Leading Magazines

AMSOIL has recently mapped out a one-year, bimonthly advertising plan to showcase its Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil line in two leading men’s magazines, Car and Driver and Popular Mechanics. Car and Driver is the second-most popular men’s magazine in the country, while Popular Mechanics is the fourth-most popular. The first of six Popular Mechanics advertisements appeared in the October 2011 issue, while the first of six Car and Driver advertisements appeared in the November 2011 issue.

According to current circulation data, Car and Driver has 1.2 million subscribers and Popular Mechanics has 1.22 million subscribers. Even more impressive is the “pass-along” readership of both publications, which refers to the total number of readers. Both magazines are often passed along to friends and relatives, are carried by most libraries and are popular choices for various waiting rooms (doctor, dentist, mechanic, etc.). Car and Driver has a pass-along readership of 9-11 million, and Popular Mechanics has a pass-along readership of 7.7 million.

Attention – Potential Scam

Several Dealers have been contacted by an individual interested in selling AMSOIL products in Singapore. The sender is asking Dealers to supply “products without AMSOIL HQ knowing about it.” Dealers are advised to be wary of this and similar proposals that seem too good to be true or request actions that violate AMSOIL policies. Dealers are not allowed to sell products for export outside of the United States and Canada. These unsolicited contacts oftentimes are attempts to pass stolen credit cards, obtain products to sell to protected customers, sell online or other activities that adversely affect AMSOIL INC. and AMSOIL Dealers. If you have any questions or additional information about this or other potential scams, please notify your Regional Sales Manager.

Stop-Sale Order Issued for City Star Motor Oil

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services issued a stop-sale order on City Star 5W-30, 10W-30 and 10W-40 motor oils after they failed numerous quality tests. The stop-sale order applies to all bottles without date codes, with illegible codes and codes of 5/24/11 and earlier. More codes could be included as additional products are tested.

A variety of problems were discovered with the oils, including viscosity. Tests revealed most of the oils fell into a 20-grade or lower. “It doesn’t meet viscosity standards, and some bottles don’t contain required information listing the manufacturer, packager or distributor,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “In addition, because this oil is recycled from used motor oil, it should state that on its label. Unfortunately, that information is missing too.”

95 Percent of Shops Recycle Used Oil

A study performed by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) reveals that used motor oil is recycled by 95 percent of auto repair shops and auto parts stores that accept used oil. Repair shops and do-it-yourselfers produce an estimated 1.3 billion gallons of used oil each year, with the majority of it re-used as combustible fuel or re-refined into new oil. Improper disposal of used oil can contaminate drinking water, and 40 percent of oil pollution in the nation’s harbors and waterways can be attributed to improper disposal of used motor oil.

Personalized Stamps Discontinued

The Personalized Rubber Stamp (G260) and Catalog Rubber Stamp (G1268) are discontinued and available until December 1. Custom labels for literature items are available in the AMSOIL Print Center.

From the Dealer Sales Department

Believe it or not, as this is being written, there are only 45 business days left in 2011. Wow, how time flies. So, the question is, how will you end the year? Will you let excuses such as “wait until after the holidays” and “the economy hasn’t gotten any better” get in your way of ending the year on an upswing, or will you decide to end the year on a high note? Don’t lose your focus. How are you going to make the last two months of 2011 the best two months of the year? And, when will you start planning and setting your goals for 2012? Now is the time to start thinking about these topics. Don’t wait until after the Thanksgiving turkey is gone to plan for 2012 and beyond. Do it now; action is the food and drink that will nourish your success for the last two months of this year, 2012 and for all the years to come.

Feel free to contact your sponsoring Dealer, Direct Jobber or the Dealer Sales Department for ideas on how to grow your AMSOIL business.

Good luck and Good Selling!

Strong Lubricant Demand Expected in Manufacturing Market

According to the Freedonia Group, motor vehicle lubricants will continue to comprise the largest share of overall lubricant demand through 2015, but growth will be quicker in the manufacturing market. Motor vehicle lubricant demand is expected to grow 1.8 percent per year through 2015, while manufacturing lubricant demand is expected to increase 3.5 percent per year through 2015, buoyed by strong demand for hydraulic fluids. The research firm also notes the increased practice of extending drain intervals and growing use of high-performance synthetic oils in North America and Western Europe will play a role in decreased motor vehicle lubricant demand.

“While the trends towards lengthening drain intervals and the increased use of synthetics have not shifted, the pace of change for both of these areas has picked up more than we would have expected two years ago,” said Freedonia analyst Ned Zimmerman.
