On July 9, we implemented our new order-fulfillment solution in the Portland Distribution Center that will deliver significant efficiencies with how small-parcel orders are picked and packed.
What Changed?
The previous process required a printed pick slip for each order. AMSOIL Distribution Center staff use the pick slip to gather all products ordered, then determine which boxes are required to ship the order. The new system examines the dimensions and weight of all products included in an order and tells DC staff which boxes will match perfectly to ship the items ordered. This system eliminates any guesswork and optimizes the process for the AMSOIL team and our customers.
Each box will include a carton contents label, which replaces the pick slip. This will be the only visible change for Dealers and our customers. Customers who want a more detailed document that summarizes an entire multi-box order can use the order confirmation email that is sent for all orders or access an invoice from their account online. LTL shipments are not affected by this change.

Keeping pace with our strong growth requires us to invest in advanced distribution capabilities and technologies. Converting to a digital process that optimizes all aspects of picking and shipping orders will improve efficiencies, reduce waste, improve the appearance of package contents and reduce costs, ultimately helping us ship orders faster, provide a better experience for customers and maintain better control of product prices. In addition, having a carton contents label on each box eliminates confusion for customers who receive a multi-box order when the entire order is not delivered together. In the current system, if the box with the packing slip isn’t delivered with the first shipment, customers are confused. If one of the other boxes isn’t delivered, but the box with the packing slip is, customers think the box is missing and don’t realize it’s still in transit. This change will provide excellent benefits for you and our customers, while allowing AMSOIL to meet the demands of our growing customer base.
