The AMSOIL Rutan Racer bi-plane, which had been on display in the Reno Hilton since 1994, is now on prominent display in the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Museum in Oshkosh, Wis.
Designed by the world-famous Burt Rutan, the revolutionary aircraft was built in 1981 in only seven months by Danny Mortensen. Over two years, it set two national and two world speed records sanctioned by the National Aeronautics Association (NAA).
The aircraft is 22 feet long with a main wing span of 22 feet. Top speed was 233 mph on a fixed pitch propeller at 3,700 rpm and a ceiling of 22,000 feet.
